  • As of April 10, 2026, Dataplex Universal Catalog is officially named Knowledge Catalog in the Google Cloud console and documentation.
  • Although called Knowledge Catalog in docs and console, all CLI commands (gcloud dataplex), IAM roles (roles/dataplex.*), Terraform resources (google_dataplex_*), client libraries, and API endpoints (dataplex.googleapis.com) remain under 'dataplex'.
  • Rare exception where the technical API namespace itself (datacatalog.googleapis.com) is deprecated for catalog workloads and requires migrating to dataplex.googleapis.com (Knowledge Catalog).
  • Data Catalog deprecation was officially announced on February 3, 2025 (originally targeting January 30, 2026 discontinuation, later extended to a phased shutdown starting June 1, 2026).
