Notes & disambiguation

  • Anthos (launched April 2019) was first rebranded to GKE Enterprise at Google Cloud Next '23 (August 2023) as an enterprise tier of GKE.
  • On September 4, 2025, Google Cloud retired the separate GKE Enterprise tier: multi-cluster management and networking features (Multi-team Management, Config Sync, Config Controller, Managed Policy Controller, Connect Gateway, Network Function Optimizer, FQDN Network Policy, Inter-node Transparent Encryption) became part of the standard Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) offering at no additional cost.
  • Other former Anthos / GKE Enterprise components continue as standalone SKUs or products: Managed Cloud Service Mesh, Multicluster Gateways/Ingress, Binary Authorization, Advanced Vulnerability Scanning, GKE Multi-Cloud (GKE on AWS, GKE on Azure, GKE attached clusters), and Google Distributed Cloud (software-only) for VMware and bare metal.
